Abstract

1385923 Flushing liquor and gas collecting apparatus KOPPERS CO Inc 9 Nov 1972 [27 Dec 1971 21 April 1972] 51860/72 Heading C5E Apparatus for collecting flushing liquor and gases from a coke oven battery 13 comprises a plurality of ascension pipes 15 each connected to a coking chamber and via an elbow 17 to a gas collecting main 11 comprising two longitudinally extending zones 41, 47 one of which communicates with a suction main 19 and the other having a sump 39, and a pivotally mounted flushing liquor seal valve 23 which when in the first and second (B and C) of three possible positions (A, B, C), directs flushing liquor and gases from the ascension pipe into one or other of the zones, and in the third position (A) cooperates with the elbow to collect flushing liquor to form a liquid seal and close the elbow. The gas collecting main may be a conduit divided into the zones by an elongate baffle 21. The seal valve may be mounted in the elbow as at 25. Spray nozzles may be provided in one of the zones to cool the gases.
