Abstract

1517184 Treating coke oven gases H HOLTER 8 Aug 1975 [21 Aug 1974 17 Oct 1974 23 April 1975] 33107/75 Heading B1W [Also in Division F4] Apparatus A for treating gases resulting from the charging of a coke oven battery C comprises serially arranged extraction, combustion and washing means carried by a truck B movable lengthwise along one side of the coke-oven battery C. In use one end of an extraction duct 10 is adapted to be connected to the gas of take pipe 11 of a respective oven being charged, the other end of said duct 10 being connected to the inlet pipe 9 of a combustion chamber 2, in such a manner as to allow telescoping and pivotable movement therebetween. The combustion chamber 2 is provided with a thick ceramic lining 8 acting as a heat store and remaining sufficiently hot during the intervals between two successive charging operations as to ensure ignition of the gases discharged from the coke oven. The chamber 2 additionally includes a burner 3 supplied with gas from a tank 5 and means 7 for supplying air to ensure complete combustion. The end of conduit 10 is provided with a device 13, whereby a cover 12 on the offtake pipe 11 may be opened or closed by appropriate movement of the conduit 10 relative to the pipe 11. The burned gas leaving the combustion chamber 2 is cooled in a conduit 14 by spraying with water, the thus cooled gas being led into a preliminary sedimentation separator 17. Partially cleaned gas leaving separator 17 is then passed through a main washer 21 and a further separator 22 before being discharged via a suction fan 27. The extractor conduit 10 is provided with a branch conduit 10a to collect gases emerging through the adjacent coke oven door. The truck B carries machinery such as levelling or coke pushing equipment in addition to the gas treatment apparatus A.
