Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable a substantial reduction of production in a coke oven without lowering the quality of coke or damaging the apparatuses, by charging coal to the upper empty space of the coke oven generated by the volume contraction caused by the carbonization of initially charged coal, and continuing the carbonization of the coal.
CONSTITUTION: Carbonization of coal is carried out at a lower oven temperature for a longer carbonization time. The produced coke is left in the coke oven as it is, and the upper empty space of the coke oven generated by the volume contraction of coal during the carbonization, is filled with fresh coal. After a proper time from the end of the carbonizaion of the newly charged coal, the produced coke is discharged from the coke oven.
EFFECT: The first carbonized coke is held in the oven for a very long period, which results in a substantial reduction of production. The leak of air into the coke oven is prevented by the internal pressure generated by the gas produced by the carbonization of coal, and the combustion and falling-off of the oven wall made of car bonaceous material can also be prevented.
