569,726. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. May 25, 1943, No. 8347. Convention date, May 16, 1942. [Class 51 (ii)] In a regenerative coke oven comprising silica-walled conduits for conveying rich heating-gas to the heating flues of the oven, the inlet ends of the conduits are protected by a tubular shield 28 of non-metallic refractory material from contact with the entering cool, rich gas. Openings 29 are provided in the tubular shield beneath the conduits 25 leading to the gas nozzles 27 at the base of the heating flues. The tubular shields are insulated from metal butt-blocks 30 by packing material 31 supported on bushes 32.
