Abstract

1384667 Cooling discharged material; planetary coolers F L SMITH & CO AS 8 May 1973 21910/73 Heading F4B A two-stage rotary cooler for granular &c. material comprises a central tube 1 divided by a partition 8 into compartments 9 and 10 and having drive rings 2 on rollers 3, first stage planetary coolers 11 with material inlet shoots 12 from compartment 9 and outlet shoots 13 to second stage compartment 10 near an air opening 5, said compartment 10 having air and material discharge shoots 17 leading to a casing 18 with a hopper 19 having an air outlet opening 21 whereby the compartment 10 may be placed under reduced pressure. The planetary tubes and compartment 10 may have conventional lifters and may also be cooled externally by water or air streams. Cooling water is injected into compartment 10 by a tube 22. The tube 1 may be associated with or made integral with a rotary kiln.
