Abstract

1352590 Planetary coolers for rotary kilns F L SMIDTH & CO AS 20 July 1972 [3 Aug 1971] 36428/71 Heading F4B In a rotary kiln 1 the outlet ends of uphill planetary cooler tubes 2 are supported independently of the kiln by being fixed to a stay tube 3 by means of a saddle plate 5, said stay tube 3 extending axially beyond the cooler tubes and having a ring 10 supported by a live roller 11. The cooler tubes are held in recesses in the saddle plate 5 by clamps 6. The inlet ends of the cooler tubes are similarly fixed by clamps 7 to a saddle plate 8 mounted on a ring 9 welded to the kiln shell. Tension plates 14 extend tangentially from the kiln to the stay tube 3 so that in normal operation they are subject only to tensional effects. In a modification (Fig. 3), the tube 3 is shorter and there is only one set of plates 14.
