Abstract
1,267,188. Cooling granular material. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. 17 Dec., 1970 [23 Dec., 1969], No. 60008/70. Headings F4B and F4U. Granular material, e.g. iron ore sinter, is cooled in apparatus comprising two concentrically arranged annular troughs 1, 2 on an annular base-plate 3 which revolves about a central vertical axis 4. Each trough is of inverted conical shape and is open at the top and bottom to permit continuous throughput of material and arranged to discharge on to the plate 3 from which it is continuously removed by a single fixed stripper blade (not shown). One side wall 13, 17 of each trough has louvres 14, 18 to admit cooling air into a respective trough from a shaft 9. As shown the shaft 9 has an annular passage 11 directing air to the wall 13 of the trough 1 and an inner central pipe connected by radial branch pipes 15 which extend through the trough 1 to an annular space 16 between adjacent side walls of the troughs for passage through louvres 18 of the trough 2. In a modification all the cooling air passes to the space 16 and both adjacent walls 17 have louvres therein.
