Abstract
1397489 Planetary coolers for rotary kilns POLYSIUS AG 5 Dec 1973 [1 Feb 1973] 56262/73 Heading F4B In a planetary cooler for a rotary tube kiln 1, return of material from the inlet heads of the cooling tubes 2 to the kiln is prevented and the walls of the inlet heads and tubes are protected from excessive wear by arranging that each inlet tube 3 consists of a shorter part 4 disposed radially of the kiln and a longer part 6 outwardly inclined against the direction of rotation of the kiln, the axis 8 of part 6 of the inlet tube runs generally through the axis 10 of the inlet head 9, and the wall 9<SP>11</SP> of said inlet head opposite the inlet tube mouth is inclined towards the kiln as shown. The axis 10 of the inlet head 9 is inclined to the cooling tube axis 11 at 20- 45 degrees, preferably within the range 30-35 degrees, and the end wall 14 of said head is domed. The angle #, Fig. 1, between the axis 7 of part 4 of the inlet tube 3 and a plane 12 passing through the kiln axis 13 and inlet head axis 10 lies within the range 5-20 degrees and is preferably 10 degrees.
