Abstract

1383244 Hinges; windows and doors W J LOWE 14 March 1972 [5 Jan 1972] 424/72 Headings E1J and E2F A window or door is hingedly mounted in a frame by means of a hinge arrangement comprising two parts 12, 17, one part 12 being disconnectable from the other part 17 by axial displacement of the one part 12 relative to the other, the axial displacement being effected by displacement along a linear path of a handle 15 connected to the part 12. A safety device comprising a displaceable abutment (24), Fig. 3 (not shown), is provided in the linear path of the handle to prevent accidental disconnection of the hinge parts. The illustrated casement window has hinge arrangements on both vertical edges, and these hinge arrangements, under the control of corresponding handles 15, allow the casement to be opened about either hinged edge or to be removed completely. The hinge parts 12 are connected to the handles 15 by links 10 slidably received in grooves in the vertical edges of the casement. Two stays 19 hold the window in its open positions, each stay carrying at its free end a ball (31), Figure 5 (not shown) pivotally mounted at (35), which snapfits into corresponding apertures in the window frame and underside edge of the casement when the window is open and closed, respectively.
