138,315. Belluzzo, G. Jan. 17, 1919, [Convention date]. Motor power plant; blades; reversing.-In a marine geared turbine installation comprising a high-pressure casing, Fig. 1, and a low-pressure casing, Fig. 2, steam for forward working is supplied by nozzles d to a wheel A having blades with outer and inner faces oppositely-curved for forward and reverse working respectively; the steam then passes by way of a valve O and duct L to the upper half of a hollow diaphragm I having nozzles supplying the next wheel B, whence the steam flows through the successive wheels C, D, E, and is delivered through the outlet R to the low-pressure casing at r, Fig. 2. From the inlet r the steam flows through the space o to wheels A1 - - E1, and then, dividing into two portions, flows in parallel through two sets of wheels F1, G, and F<1>, G<1>1 to the, exhaust s. For reverse working, steam is admitted to the lower half M of the hollow diaphragm I and so, by way of the nozzles N, to the inner reversed portions of the blades of the wheel A; thence, by way of a valve P, it flows. to a radial inward-flow wheel y arranged in a low-pressure casing between the wheels G1, G<1>1. A single, casing may be used for the high and low pressure wheels. Two high pressure and two low pressure casings may be used. The blades with the oppositely curved faces for forward and reverse working are machined from drawn bars having the section shown in Fig. 6. Specification 6010/15 is referred to.
