6010. Belluzzo, G. April 21. Reversing.-In a reversible marine turbine installation comprising both disk and drum axial-flow stages and a low-pressure radial-flow stage for astern working only, the blades of the first disk a (or the first two disks) have oppositely curved faces, so that one half of the blade is used for forward running and the other half for reverse running. In forward working, steam from an inlet A acts on the stage a and passes by a valve V to a chamber C supplying the stages b ... f. In reverse working, steam from an inlet, I, Fig. 2, enters the stage a and is discharged through a valve w to a pipe i leading to a chamber B arranged in the main outlet S and feeding a radial outward-flow stage g. Where two or more disks a adapted to run both forwards and backwards are employed, they are arranged in successive valve-controlled chambers, and for reverse running, steam enters the last of such disks first and flows through the disks in series to the first disk, before being conducted to the radial-flow wheel. In a modification, the disk or disks with the double blades are mounted on the drum carrying the blades of the total admission stages. In a further modification, a radial inward-flow low-pressure stage is used for astern working and arranged centrally between the two low-pressure stages used for ahead working.
