Abstract

252,706. Forman, A. A. June 1, 1925, [Convention date]. Radial-flow (bladed) type; regulating; reversing. -A combined inward and outward radialflow turbine comprises two ahead units supplied with steam by pipes 10 and arranged on opposite sides of two reversing units having exhaust chambers 29. The ahead nozzles 15 are alternately connected in two groups to pipes 13, 14 controlled by valves 12. More groups than two may be used to obtain finer regulation. The steam flows radially through rotor and stator blades, and cored passages 19, 26 reverse the steam flow at its outer and inner limits, the passages 26 serving also as active blades. Blocks 37 interrupt the rings of stator blades. In a modification each ahead unit is provided with an additional inward- and-outward flow section.
