1378609 Armour jacket W A COHEN 29 Aug 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 40631/73 Heading A3V An armour jacket comprises a front assembly joined to a back assembly 4, the front assembly including a right armour section 22, a left armour section 24 and a centre armour flap, the sections 22 and 24 having a first releasable fastener 32 for securing together the free side edges thereof in abutting relationship, the flap 26 being hinged to the section 24 along a line 34 spaced from the free side edge of the section and a second releasable fastener 36, 38 being provided to secure the flap to the other section 22. The assembly 4, sections 22 and 24 and flap 26 each comprise a fabric carrier with a rigid armour insert, e.g. of reinforced fibre-glass or ceramic material. Soft armour inserts, e.g. of nylon may be used instead. Adjustable shoulder and waist straps 6 and 8 interconnect the front and back assemblies. The first fastener 32 is suitably a sliding clasp fastener, the flap 26 is hinged to the section 24 by stitching and the second fastener comprises a line of press stud fasteners having male members 38 and female members 36. The fabric carriers of the right and left armour sections may be formed with pockets as shown.
