Abstract

1372911 Brassiere H HAND 29 March 1972 [20 Aug 1971] 14781/72 Heading A3V A brassiere comprises a pair of breast-supporting straps 11, 12 joined end to end; a pair of breast-extending strips 26, 27 for encircling the upper portions of the breasts secured at their ends to opposite ends of the straps 11, 12; a pair of underarm side support bands 24, 25 joined to the remote ends of the straps 11, 12 and attached to each other by flexible back support members 41, 42, the adjoining edges of the straps 11, 12 and bands 24, 25 being concave so that their junction bows inwardly in use; and a pair of breast-shaping cups 43, 44 of flexible fabric secured at their lower edges to the breast-supporting straps and secured to a portion of the associated breastextending strips 26, 27. The cups 43, 44 carry at their upper edges fastener strips 53, 54 with alternative openings, and a pair of shoulder straps 55, 56 are attached to the bands 24, 25 at the rear and to buckles 35, 36 carried by the breast-extending strips 26, 27 at the front, said buckles having tongues for selective engagement in one of the openings in the associated fastener strip 53, 54 to allow adjustment of the position of the breast-shaping cups to accommodate periodical variations in the size of the breasts. A strip 22 of elasticised fabric having a smooth plush finish on its inner surface is attached to the lower edge of the breast-supporting straps 11, 12.
