Abstract
1308535 Girdles V L NOBBS 4 June 1970 27002/70 Heading A3V [Also in Division A5] A girdle comprises a pair of body girdling panels 26, 28, means (preferably an outer layer 20) joining the panels at the centre of the back of the girdle where the panels are symmetrically bias cut, an inner pocket layer 22 fastened along its side and lower edges by stitching 24 to the inside of the back of the girdle, the layer 22 being wider than the layer 20 and thus transmitting no circumferential girdling forces, and a sacroiliac pad 10, preferably of high density foam rubber, positioned in the pocket between layers 20, 22 adjacent the bottom of a wearer's spine to provide support. The inner layer 22 may be formed of nylon tricot to ensure a smooth outer girdle contour. The pad 10 is seated by a diagonally angled waistline and by the effect of the bias out of the panels 26, 28. Tabs 52, 54 of the elastic waistband (50) anchor the top of the outer layer (50). A reinforcing panel (58) may be included in the front of the girdle, for example as described in Specification No. 1119477.
