Description

S. GRISHMAN Feb. 16, 1965 PANTY GIRDLE WITH INDEPENDENT RELATIVELY MOVABLE FRONT PORTIONS Filed NOV. 30, 1962 ignz.
INVENTOR. S/MO/v 6R/5HMA/v H TTOR/VE Y United States. Patent 3,169,533 PANTY GIRDLE WITH INDEPENDENT RELA- TIVELY MOVABLE FRONT PORTIONS Simon Grishman, Yonkers, N.Y., assignor to William Gluckin & Company, Inc., New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Nov. 30, 1962, Ser. No. 241,416 6 Claims. (Cl. 128-528) This invention relates to girdles, wherein the upper portion of the girdle includes detachably coupled portions, preferably stayed, and wherein the lower portion of the front of the girdle is independent of the upper front portion to provide relative movement between said portions. More particularly, the invention deals with a girdle of the character described including a panty substantially housed within the lower portion of the girdle, the front of the panty being attached to the. lower front portion of the girdle and the rear of the pantybeing attached to the rear upper portion of the girdle; i
The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic rear view of a girdle'made according to my invention, with the parts substantially in flat relationship to each other and omitting all showing of stitchings to simplify the disclosure.
FIG. 2 is a view, similar to FIG. 1, showing the front portion of the girdle, with parts of the construction broken away and part in diagrammatic section, no attempt being made to show the side seams.
FIG. 3 is an enlarged diagramamtic section substantially on the line 3-3 of FIG. 1 illustrating the front and rear portions in spaced relationship to each other, with parts of the construction broken away and digrammatically illustrating the stitchings.
FIG. 4 is an enlarged diagrammatic section on the line 44 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 5 is an enlarged diagrammatic section on the line 55 of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 6 is a diagrammatic section on the line 66 of FIG. 2.
The girdle comprises a front upper section 10 and a hack upper section 11. At 12 I have shown the lower front section and at 13 I have shown the lower back section. At 14 is diagrammatically illustrated the panty section arranged primarily within the lower sections 12 and 13 of the girdle.
The upper front section 10 comprises two parts 10' and 10" which, in the construction shown, are detachably coupled at the front of the girdle through the medium of hook and eye tapes 15 and 16 shown in diagrammatic sectional detail in FIG. 4 of the drawing, the tape 15 being fixed to the part 10 for supporting the spaced hooks 17; whereas, the tape 16 is secured to the part 10" and includes two vertically alined and spaced eyes 18 and 19, respectively, for size adjustment of the parts 10', 10". The tape 16 includes a wide inner cover portion 16', preventing the eyes from coming in contact with the body of the wearer. In the present showing, the hooks 17 are in operative engagement with the eyes 18. In the present showing, only one horizontal alinement of hooks and eyes is shown, but it will be understood that these extend from the lower edge 20 of the parts 10', 10" to the upper edge thereof.
Secured to the parts 10', 10" of the section 10 are vertical stays, diagrammatically seen at 21. Two similar stays are disposed on the back section 11, as seen at 22, and side stays are employed, as at 23, where 10', 10" join which are united by a loop-type of stitching, diagramthe back section 11. The stays 21-23 extend from the lower edges of the sections 10 and 11 to the upper edges thereof.
Attached to the inner surface of the upper edge portions 7 of the parts 10', 10" are elastics 24, one of which is shown in section in FIG. 3 of the drawing, the stitchings being diagrammatically. illustrated at 25 in said figure. A similar elastic 26 is secured to the inner surface of the upper edge portion of the back section 11 by stitchings 27, as also noted in FIG. 3 of the drawing. The lower edge portion of the upper section 10, or the separate parts thereof, also includes an elastic 28, stitched, as seen at.
Considering now the lower front section 12 and FIG. 6 of the drawing, in the construction shown, this section comprises side parts 12', 12", adjacent hemmed edges of V matically illustrated at730 in FIG. 6 and at the upper portion of the section 12, centrally thereof, is a substantially diamond or dart-shaped reinforcing section 31, generallyoutlined in FIG. '1 of the drawing and shown in' section in FIG. 6, stitched at its peripheral edges to the parts 12, 12", preferably with a decorative stitching. I
A diagrammatic illustration of the stitching is indicated at 32 in FIG. 6 and the section 31 is also stitched to the hemmed edges of the parts 12, 12",as diagrammatically seen at 33. The contour of the upper side edges of the section 31 is preferably irregular, as indicated at 31' at the left of FIG. 2 of the drawing.
The panty section 14 includes a front part 14' and a rear part 14", as clearly noted in FIG. 3 of the drawing. The upper edge portion of the front part 14' is attached at the upper edgeportion 34 of the lower front section 12, or the separate parts thereof, through the medium of an inner elastic 35, the stitchings being diagrammatically seen at 36 in FIG. 3. Also considering this figure, it will appear that the upper edge portion of the part 14" is attached to the lower edge of the upper back section 11 and the upper edge of the lower back section 13, as diagrammatically seen at 37. An elastic 38 is attached to the lower edge portion of the back section 13, similar to attachment of the other elastics, and a similar elastic 39 is attached to the lower edge portion of the section 12, or the separate parts 12', 12" thereof. It will be noted from a consideration of FIGS. 2 and 3 that the upper portion of the section 12 overlaps the lower portion of the section 10.-
The panty parts 14', 14" can be formed of onepiece or of two pieces attached together but, in any event, they join at the lower portion of the panty section 14 in a crotch portion 49; whereas, side edges of these parts are joined with the side seams joining the front and rear sections 12, 13, as diagrammatically seen at 41 in FIG. 5 of the drawing. Considering FIG. 2 of the drawing, it will be noted that the sides of the front part 14' are vertically shorter in their attachment at the side seams than the sides of the rear part 14", the short side being indicated at 42 and the long side being indicated at 43 at the right of FIG. 2. These attachments, in combination with the sections 12 and 13, form, in conjunction with the crotch 40, side leg openings 44 in the panty and these leg openings are reinforced at their free edges in elastics, as diagrammatically seen at 45.
While garments of the type and kind under consideration can be formed of any desired combinations of materials, it is preferred that all of the sections 10, 11, 12 and 13, as well as the reinforcing section 31, be composed of all way stretch material, the stretching of the sections 10 and 11 being modified only to the extent of inclusion of the stays 21, 22 and 23 and the detachable coupling between the parts 10', 10" of the section 10. The panty section 14 can be composed of any suitable material. However,
. Patented Feb. 16, 1965 3 it is preferred that a readily extensible material such, for example, as Helenca, be employed.
With a girdle of the character defined, it will be understood that the upper and lower front sections 10 and 12 of the girdle are relatively movable, not only in circumferential directions, but also in vertical directions in the use of the girdle upon the body of the wearer. The panty section 14 is movable with and relatively to the lower sections 12 and 13 of the girdle when the girdle is in use.
Considering FIG. 1 of the drawing, it will appear that garter supporting elastics or other straps 46 are employed at lower edge portions of the sections 12 and 13, as with other garments of this type and kind.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A girdle of the character defined Comprising a plurality of sections, namely upper and lower front sections, upper and lower back sections and a panty section, the upper and lower back sections being joined in a seam, the upper portion only of the lower front section overlapping the lower portion only of the upper front section, said upper and lower front sections being free of each other for relative movement in a vertical direction throughout the major portion of the circumferential length of said sections, the upper edge portion of the back 25 of the panty section being coupled with the lower edge of the upper back section, and the upper edge of the front of the panty section being secured to the upper edge of the lower front section.
2. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein the upper front section is composed of independent parts, and means detachably coupling said parts.
3. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein sides of the panty section are coupled with side portions of the girdle.
4. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein said lower front section includes centrally of the upper portion thereof a reinforced panel. I
5. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein the upper front and back sections only include vertically arranged stays spaced circumferentially of the girdle.
6. A girdle as defined in claim 2, wherein said last named means includes size adjustment.
