' 4 Claims. (Cl. 128-528) This application is a continuation of application Ser. No. 472,771, filed July 19, 1965, now abandoned.
This invention relates to a womans undergarment having the basic features of a panty girdle and still providing a flattening to the buttocks which is achieved by a pull-on girdle.
A conventional panty girdle provides a highly desirable slimming action to the midrilf and thighs by surrounding them with an elastic material that draws them inwardly. In order to accomplish this the material of the girdle is elasticized in two mutually perpendicular directions and pulls longitudinally as well as transversely. The material of the girdle generally assumes and follows the contour of the buttocks, but pulls the buttocks in to provide the desired slimming action. When fashion dictates a fiat buttocks rather than a gently rounded curve, it is necessary to wear a pull-on girdle which employs material which is only elasticized for stretch in the vertical direction and which is pulled downwardly by garters attached to the hose so as to provide a flattened buttocks. However, such a girdle often creates bulges in the thighs at its lower edges which are eliminated by the panty girdle.
The present invention has as its broad object to provide a womans undergarment which combines the slimming action of the panty girdle with the flattening action of the rear of a pull-on girdle in order to provide the wearer with a slimmed, flattened appearance without creating any bulges at the lower margins of the garment.
As disclosed in the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention, the garment takes the form of a conventional panty girdle with an additional back panel, superimposed on the rear of the panty girdle. This back panel is generally rectangular in shape and is joined at its top and side edges to the material of the panty girdle. The panel has two sides which are elasticized for pull in two directions and a center section that is vertically elasticized. Its bottom edge is not attached to the panty girdle and is provided with garters which are ada ted to engage the tops of hose. The downward pull exerted on this rear panel by the hose causes the buttocks to be forced into a flat surface which merges tangentially into the curves created by the pulling action of the panty girdle. The result is a figure which is drawn in and smoothed by the panty girdle and is flattened by the rear panel to give a more desirable look.
It is therefore seen to be a primary object of the present invention to provide a womans undergarment which has the slimming action of a panty girdle and incorporates means consisting of an elasticized panel, attached to the rear of the panty girdle and drawn downwardly by garters attached to the hose, for flattening the buttocks and cansing it to smoothly merge with the curves formed by the panty girdle.
Another object is to provide such a garment wherein the back panel is attached along its top and sides to the rear of a panty girdle, and has its lower end free so that it may be stretched downwardly by the garters to flatten the buttocks.
Another object is to provide such an undergarment wherein the material of the panty girdle is elasticized for stretch in two mutually perpendicular directions and the material of the back panel is elasticized for stretch in one direction only, the panel being aligned so that the stretch is provided in the vertical direction.
Other objects, advantages and applications of the present invention will be made apparent by the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the invention. The description makes reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front view of the mid-section of a woman wearing an undergarment representing a preferred embodiment of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is a rear view of the mid-section of the woman wearing the inventive garment;
.FIGURE 3 is a side view of the inventive garment showing in phantom the buttocks line that would be achieved without the use of the present invention; and
FIGURE 4 is a rear view of the inventive garment showing the end of the rear panel lifted to illustrate its manner of connection to the panty girdle section.
Referring to the drawings, the present invention is formed about a panty girdle of the conventional sort. Such a girdle is constructed of material having stretch in both the longitudinal and lateral directions, which are aligned longitudinally and vertically, so as to draw in, and firmly retain the stomach, buttocks and thighs of the wearer. The panty girdle consists of a stomach and buttocks engaging section 10 and a pair of downwardly extending tubular thigh engaging sections 12. The lower end of the fronts and sides of the thigh engaging sections have downwardly extending garters 14 attached thereto which are adapted to be engaged to the wearers hose 32. The upper edge of the girdle is formed with a hem 16 and similar hems 18 are formed around the lower edges of the two thigh engaging sections 12. The panty girdle sections may also incorporate vairous front and back latex sections such as the section 19, but these are not of importance to the present invention.
The rear of the undergarment is fitted with a generally rectangular panel 20 intended to flatten the buttocks of the wearer which would otherwise assume a rounded contour as a result of the natural lines and the pull of the panty girdle. The panel 20 has a center section 21 preferably formed of a material which is elasticized for stretch in a single direction only. The panel 21 is oriented so that the stretch occurs in the vertical direction. The two side sections are elasticized for pull in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. The top edge of the panel 20 is attached to the outer surface of the rear side of the panty girdle, preferably by sewing, along a line 22. The two vertical sides of the panel 20 are also attached to the edges of the panty girdle along lines 24. The lower end of the panel 20 is not attached to the panty girdle but rather free, and may be lifted, as is illustrated in FIGURE 4.
In other embodiments only the tops of the sides might be sewn to the panty girdle, leaving the ends free. This would provide a looser contour.
The bottom edge 26 of the panel 20 has a pair of tapes 28 attached adjacent to its two opposite edges. These tapes 28 retain garters 30 on their lower edges which are joined to hose 32. The garters are adapted to be so attached as to provide a firm downward pull on the panel 20.
In FIGURE 3, the contour which would be assumed by the buttocks with the panty girdle but without the panel 20, is indicated by the phantom line 36. It should be noted that the actual line assumed by the buttocks is much flatter than the line 36 and provides a straight rear side which contours naturally into the upper and side areas of the panel 20.
Having thus described our invention, we claim:
1. A womans undergarment of the type described, comprising: a panty girdle member formed of a material elasticized in two mutually perpendicular directions and including a stomach and buttocks surrounding portion and a pair of downwardly directed thigh engaging sections, said thigh engaging sections having garter members attached at :the front to the lower edges thereof; and an auxiliary generally rectangular rear panel having a width sufiicient to cover the buttocks of the wearer, said panel being formed of elastic material and attached to the outer side of the rear of the panty girdle by its top and having its lower end free of the panty girdle,and hose engaging garter means attached to the free lower edge of the panel and adapted to draw the panel downwardly into a generally fiat line by attachment to the hose, when worn.
2. The undergarment of claim 1 wherein the lower edge of the auxiliary rear panel extends below the upper edges of the thigh engaging sections.
4 3. The undergarment of claim 2, wherein the rear panel is elasticized in a single direction only.
4. The undergarment of claim 1 wherein the auxiliary rear panel it attached to the rear of the panty girdle by its top and to the opposed sides.
