Expanding-pulley gearing. - An expanding pulley with conical flanges d, d<3>, Fig. 2, is mounted on ball-bearings c<4> upon an eccentric c which is adapted to be rocked about a driving- shaft a in order to vary the effective diameter of the pulley and at the same time to keep the belt in tension. A toothed pinion b secured to the shaft a drives an internally toothed ring d<1> on the pulley. A nut e screwing upon an extension c<3> of the eccentric c operates the movable pulley flange d<3> through a ball-bearing f. Two lugs c<5> upon the nut e are connected by links g, g', Fig. 1, to the shorter and longer arms g<4>, g<5> of an operating-lever, the actuation of which causes the nut e to screw, and also causes the eccentric c to rock. The shaft a is supported in bushes c<1> in the eccentric c, which has a hollow c<2> for oil surrounding the pinion b. A dust-proof shield h protects the bearings.
