Abstract
1376211 Water tube boiler C O'CONNOR 9 Feb 1972 [19 Feb 1971] 6070/72 Heading F4A A water tube boiler has a number of headers 20-33 which receive water from and deliver steam to steam drum 14, via pipes 36, 37, and each header is connected to the inlet and outlet ends of a number of evaporator tubes 16 so that water can circulate in a closed loop without passing through the steam drum. Feed water enters the drum at 35 and steam is discharged from it at 47. The headers are U-shaped and are arranged side-by-side sealed together to form side walls of a fire chamber 40, partition walls 55 being arranged on either side of the evaporator tubes 16 and joined together to form the removing side wall and to define a convection gas pass. A burner 39 is directed into the chamber 40 and screen tubes (64, not shown) are provided on header 20 to fill the gap not occupied by the burner and on header 33 to provide an end wall to turn the gases into the evaporator tube pass. A superheat tube (67, Fig. 7, not shown) can be mounted behind the rear screen tubes (64) being fed from the steam outlet 47. Inspection plugs 42 are provided at the ends of the headers, and the whole boiler is encased in a housing of insulating material 38.
