Abstract

900,474. Water - tube steam boilers. WAGNER - HOCHDRUCK - DAMPFTURBINEN G.m.b.H. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 18, 1958], No. 43150/59. Class 123 (2). An oil-fired vertical tube boiler, of the kind which ensures that the water in each tube is uniformly heated, has upper and lower drums 1, 2 which lie transversely of, and above, the axis of a burner 3 in the front wall of the boiler and are interconnected by an inclined battery 5 of evaporator tubes forming the roof of a furnace chamber 7. Side and back wall cooling tubes 11, 12 which are connected between the upper drum 1 and a lower header 13 are arranged parallel to the burner axis. The cooling tubes 11, 12 are arranged so that at the upper end of the furnace chamber 7 they lie close together on the back wall 9 only and then, except the centre tube, are bent obliquely, at an angle of approximately 45 degrees downwardly in succession, into the planes of the side walls 8 to cover the latter with a wider spacing of the tubes. The bends of the tubes 11, 12 are heated, as shown, in two straight lines x, y, or in a parabola, the oblique sections 11a of the cooling tubes running parallel to the riser tubes of the evaporator battery 5. The furnace gases flow through the evaporator battery 5, having a superheater 6 built therein, and through a flue 10 possibly accommodating an air heater or an economizer or both. Fins 14 are secured, preferably on the outer sides, to the oblique tube portions 11a, the header 13 being connected, as shown, to the upper drum, or alternatively to the lower drum 2, by unheated down tubes 15.
