Abstract
1,098,275. Forced flow boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. [Sept. 16, 1965 [Sept. 16, 1964], No. 39649/65. Heading F4A. A forced flow boiler, having a rectangular furnace chamber 1 connected through a transverse gas pass 3 to an adjacent downflow gas pass 2, is lined with tube lengths 5 extending from a lower header 4. The tube lengths 5 forming parallel fluid flow paths encircle the furnace pass 1 until the lower end of gas pass 2 is reached. Each fluid flow pass then alternately encircles furnace pass 1 and gas pass 2 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) until the level of the bottom of the transverse gas pass 3 is reached, when the tubes lining the sides of furnace pass 1 are extended to line the sides and ends of gas pass 3. The tube lengths lining the rear wall of furnace pass 1 adjacent the bottom of transverse gas pass 3 (Fig. 4, not shown) are connected via serpentine tube lengths 11 and upright lengths 10 to a collector header 12 on the roof of the boiler 13.
