Abstract

1375711 Saddles for beams USS ENGS. & CONSULTANTS INC 27 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 44980/71 Heading E1W A C-sectioned sheet metal beam is seated on a transverse intermediate support by means of a re-inforcing saddle 1 having a base flange 13 of a length greater than its width and a side flange 15 engaging the web 9 of the beam and securing means maintaining the base and side flanges in contact with the beam. The means comprises either a hooked lip 14 on the saddle engaging a lip 12 on the beam or a spring clip 35 engaging the beam's lip and a recess 41 in the saddle. Tabs 22 and 24 may be punched from the saddle to respectively rest on the surface of, and grid the sides of, the intermediate support, Fig. 4 (not shown). The beam and saddle are preferably rolled from galvanised steel, the saddle having a heavier gauge than the beam.
