Abstract
1374032 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 14 March 1972 [15 March 1971] 11737/72 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion press for producing tubes comprises a pressure cylinder with a die 2 at one end and a mandrel 6 whose rear end is outwardly tapered so that during the latter part of extrusion the bore of the tube is enlarged, the mandrel being pushed with the billet 7 by a hard metal plate 12 with a tapered periphery 13 to fit the die. The enlarged bore thus causes the trailing end of the tube to be spaced from the mandrel as it moves over it so that the tube does not become a tight fit on the mandrel as it cools. The plate 12 may be separate or integral with the mandrel 6. The hydrostatic fluid pressure in the cylinder or in the hydraulic drive for a pressure generating plunger 10 of the cylinder is sensed by a device 15 with an optical or acoustic alarm 17. The device 15 may stop the motors of the pumps of the hydraulic drive.
