Abstract

1453379 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 6 March 1974 [7 March 1973] 9994/74 Heading B3P A tubular billet 12 for use in a hydrostatic extrusion process has a sleeve 14 at the rear end of its bore made of harder material than the billet to co-operate with the die 4 and prevent the billet being completely extruded. The sleeve is received in a counterbore 15 which may be equal to or of greater length than the length of sleeve. The sleeve may be frusto-conical, Fig. 6. The sleeve co-operates with the die to cut-off the discard from the extruded tube 13. The rise in pressure of the hydrostatic fluid may initiate a control signal. If the sleeve is rigid, Fig. 8 (not shown), a small gap (22) allows small escape of fluid to initiate a control signal. The sleeve may be steel with a billet of aluminium or copper.
