Abstract
1369920 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 11 Feb 1972 [12 Feb 1971] 6421/72 Heading B3P A die for use in hydrostatic extrusion of compound products of non-circular cross-section has a double conical inlet opening whose conical zones 21, 22 have a greater cone angle in the direction of extrusion. The transition between the zones has a diameter D which is equal to the greatest dimension of the die opening. The cone angle α of the outermost zone is between 70 and 115 degrees, preferably between 75 and 85 degrees. The other angle # is between 125 and 155 degrees, preferably between 135 and 145 degrees. Good results are obtained with angles of 80 and 140 degrees respectively. The extrusion ratio is greater than 20, e.g. between 50 and 500, and preferably between 100 and 250. The billet is made of an aluminium or aluminium alloy core and a sheath of copper or copper alloy. The extrusion press has a high pressure container composed of a steel cylinder with high strength metal strip wound around it under prestressing.
