Abstract

1373682 Automatic control of web position ERHARDT & LEIMER KG 3 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 5117/72 Heading G3R The transverse position of a web 5, e.g. of fabric, is adjusted by the engagement of one or the other of rollers 3, 4 in response to signals from an edge position detector 19, and the system allows that during normal (correct) running both or neither of the rollers may be engaged as desired. As shown, the detector comprises a lamp and photo-cell arrangement having a wide beam and the signal is amplified at 21, 22 and 22a. Amplifiers 22 are differential type, having second inputs from ganged potentiometers 24, 25 in a bridge which thereby adjustably determines a dead band in the response. Alternatively, the detector may comprise two narrow light beams, adjustably positioned for the dead band Fig.4 (not shown) or a feeler having a switch contact associated with fixed arcuate contacts or resistors spaced apart or overlapping for the dead band Figs.2, 3 (not shown).
