1456972 Inertia sensing mechanism KANGOL MAGNET Ltd 19 Nov 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 29990/76 Divided out of 1456971 Heading A3V [Also in Division Gl] An inertia-responsive acceleration-sensing mechanism for an inertia reel comprises an inertia body 50 supported for rolling on a support surface 51 comprising a neutral zone 54 separated by a discontinuity 55 from an operative zone 52, the body normally being retained in the neutral zone but, in the event of an acceleration exceeding a predetermined value, being able to roll over the discontinuity on to zone 52 to activate a mechanical output member 56, e.g. to lock the reel. The zone 54 may be an aperture, a flat surface or a conical portion of steeper angle than zone 52. The discontinuity may be a ridge. The mechanism may be made more responsive or responsive only in certain directions by appropriate configurations of support surface 51.
