Abstract

1456971 Inertia sensing mechanism KANGOL MAGNET Ltd 19 Nov 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 53328/72 Heading A3V [Also in Division G1] An inertia mechanism for sensing acceleration, e.g. for actuating an inertia reel for a vehicle safety belt, comprises a pendulum I, 37 mounted on a support 8, 32 to tilt about a position horizontally spaced from the centre of gravity of the pendulum so as to engage at a position, also horizontally spaced from said centre of gravity, an output member 10, 35 e.g. to effect locking of the reel. Such horizontal spacing may be provided by a circular plate 5 or bya circular-topped shaft 32. To render the mechanism more sensitive to acceleration in particular directions non- circular shapes may be used for these parts.
