Abstract
1322785 Photo-electric road or track level monitoring CANRON Ltd-CANRON LIMITEE 3 Sept 1970 [5 Sept 1969] 42314/70 Heading B7N [Also in Division G1] In a shadow board system the light beam receiver comprises two photo-cells spaced apart in the direction of motion of the operative edge and their outputs are applied to differential circuitry whereby a control pulse is developed when the cell outputs are in a predetermined ratio. A ratio of 2 : 1 is preferred but a ratio range of 8 : 1 to 8 : 7 is exemplified. The system may include a separate receiver positioned normally to be in the shadow of the board and arranged to suppress control by the control pulse until the light incident on it establishes a predetermined ratio with the adjacent photo-cell i.e. until the edge deviation exceeds a predetermined amount. The system may include an arrangement whereby the ratio may be varied and/or the beam may be modulated, and a further photo-cell may be placed about the other three to sound an alarm when incident light is shut-off by for example a person.
