Abstract

1521268 Automatic focusing HONEYWELL Inc 20 Nov 1975 [4 Dec 1974] 47730/75 Heading H4D In the automatic focusing system described with reference to Fig. 1 of Specification 1,448,424, the inputs A, B, C, D to the signal processor 39, Fig. 1, being the difference between the outputs of corresponding detectors in the two arrays 1, 3, are affected by the average intensity of the images. To overcome this it is proposed to use the ratio of said corresponding detector outputs. A diode 197, 199 &c., or other suitable non-linear element is connected across the output of each detector whereby the input to the differential amplifier becomes the logarithm of the detector output, subtraction of logarithm inputs giving the logarithm of the ratio at the output A &c.
