Abstract

1298999 Detecting the passage of small bodies ORBIT CONTROLS Ltd 19 April 1971 [26 Feb 1970] 9309/70 Heading G1A [Also in Division H3] An apparatus for detecting the passage of small bodies comprise a lamp with an elongated filament 1, two cylindrical lenses 244, and a detector 5 arranged as shown so that a flat beam of rectangular cross-section is produced. The small bodies, for example molded tablets, fall through a sensing region 3 causing rapid fluctuation in the output of the detector 5 which is preferably a photo-transistor. In an embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) the output of the photo-transistor is passed via an amplifier and is compared with a reference voltage and provides a feedback signal via a low pass filter to neutralize slow variations in the light level etc. The rapidly fluctuating signals from the amplifier due to the tablets are passed to a conventional counting device which may control the filling of the containers.
