[Also in Division G3] Wander of the lateral position of a moving web of material is detected by the web coming between and separating electrically conducting rings on a pair of rotatable discs. In Fig. 1, insulating discs 1, 2, rotatable in bearings 5, 6 on spring members 10, 12, carry conducting rings 3, 4 which normally make contact with each other at point A but which are separated if, e.g. a travelling cloth web (not shown), deviates from its normal lateral position to reach the point A. The discs are so angled that they apply a force to the web to keep it steady and cause self-cleaning of the conducting rings.
