Abstract

1373595 Closing containers UNITED GLASS Ltd 30 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25335/72 Heading B8C 10 A metal foil membrane 2 coated with a thermoplastic material 3 is bonded to a container 1, or a plastics membrane to a metal container under the heating action of a magnetic field produced by a coil 9 receiving pulses of direct current. A thermal magnetic generator may be used. The coils are water cooled. The membrane may be of aluminium, tin, or tin-antimony and be coated over the whole, or just an annular ring of the membrane with a wax, a vinylite resin, polythene or polypropylene, or a heat sealing coating or a hot melt. There may be a screw or snap-on cap 5 and a pulpboard or composition cork wad 4. The wad may be lightly adhered to the membrane. Alternatively the membrane may have a skirt which is crimped about the container.
