Abstract

848,835. Containers and closures therefor ; packaging. MONO CONTAINERS Ltd. April 18, 1958 [March 28, 1957], No. 10219/57. Classes 66, 94(1) and 125(3). A container 10 of polystyrene has an outwardly projecting shoulder 11 on which rests a sealing disc 18 also of polystyrene which is sealed to the body of the filled container by applying heat and pressure at the edges, the upper part of the container having a lip 12 and recesses 13 and grooves 14 to receive the lugs 17 of a lid 15. In a modification, Fig. 2, the container 20 has a shoulder 21 corrugation 22 and lip 23 to receive a lid 24, the container being sealed by a metal foil disc 26 having a coating of thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene on its lower surface near the edge thereof and the container being made of a thermoplastic material to which the disc will bond under heat and pressure. The heat may be applied by a heated pressing tool, high frequency dielectric heating or by radiation.
