Abstract
1373438 Multi-stage reciprocating compressors BROWN BOVERI and CIE A G 14 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 42731/72 Heading F1N A dry-running multi-stage reciprocating compressor is provided with a condenser, e.g. 2 or 21, between at least one pair of successive stages, the condensate collected in the or each condenser being arranged to drain into the higher of the two stages between which the or each condenser is connected. The condensate is stated to act as a lubricant and sealant for the pistons. The condensers 2, 21 are in the form of coiled tubes connected, respectively, between the first and second, and second and third stages. The compressor shown has a differential piston 1 which includes an inlet valve 6 and which performs first and second stages of compression, the third stage being performed by a ringless piston 3 carried by the piston 1.
