Abstract

190,888. Belliss & Morcom, Ltd., and Pain, A. C. Dec. 3, 1921. Compound or multi-stage piston pumps.-In a multi-stage compressor in which compression is effected in a pair of lines of tandem cylinders, an odd number of stages is employed, alternating between the two lines, but one of the stages is divided between the two lines, resulting in an even number of cylinders. The pistons and plungers of each line are guided by the corresponding piston of the divided stage of compression. The Figure shows one line of cylinders, comprising a first-stage cylinder a, a third stage cylinder e' and a fourth stage cylinder f; the other line of cylinders comprising the second, fifth and the remainder of the divided third stages. The pistons h<3> which serve as guides fit their cylinders throughout their length.
