Abstract

1372653 Feeding webs REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd 30 April 1973 [29 March 1972] 14842/72 Heading B8R A web 40 is fed between a pair of opposed diverging plates 10, 11 which define alternative web feed paths, a flow of air being directed over one or other of the plates to cause the web to follow one or other of the associated paths. As described in connected with a winding apparatus comprising alternative winding heads 1, 2, the web 40 is severed from a completed roll 41 on head 1 by a blade 20 which projects through the plate 10 and cuts off the path to the head 1 defined by the plate 10 and one limb 16 of a guide plate 15. An air flow along plate 10 from the transverse slit nozzle 14 of an air feed device 12 is also stopped and an air flow from a device 13 which directs the flow along plate 11 is initiated thereby causing the web to be fed to head 2. When the next roll is completed a blade 21 is operated and the web again directed to head 1. The blades may be pneumatically operated.
