Abstract

1,085,819. Wrapping - machines. HERCULES Inc. Dec. 2, 1965 [Dec. 2, 1964], No. 51230/65. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B6] In a machine for feeding synthetic plastics film to a cutting station prior to a wrapping machine, the film is supported and guided through the cutting station 31 on leaving the support-rods (10, Fig. 3) by apparatus comprising an upper perforated air-blast pipe 15 having a deflector plate 14 associated therewith, and a lower perforated air-blast pipe 30 having a deflector plate 28 associated therewith. The two deflector plates are arranged to converge in the direction of movement of the film, whereby a Venturi effect is created between the plates. This effect enables the leading unsupported edge of the film to be advanced through the cutting station, without sagging, whereafter it is supported by a pair of parallel, spaced-apart, suction belts (Fig. 3), of the wrapping machine, as described in Specification 1,084,709.
