Abstract

1,036,731. Cutting-out presses. SAMCO-STRONG Ltd. April 24, 1963 [Jan. 24, 1962], No. 2545/62. Heading B4B. A method of cutting cloth comprises the steps of forming on a horizontal laying-up surface a lay comprising a plurality of layers of cloth, transferring the lay from the surface on to an assembly of upwardly-facing knives and passing the lay on the knife assembly through a press. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a belt 10 for conveying a knife assembly 36 through an hydraulic press 6, a belt 18 providing a surface for a lay L, and a plate 24 for transferring the lay from the belt 18 to the belt 10. The belts 10, 18 are driven at the same speed. The knife assembly and the cut cloth are conveyed out of the press by a belt 32. In a modification, Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), the belt for conveying the knife assembly through the press has positioned thereover a laying-up table which is split along a longitudinal medial line into two parts which are movable away from each other to deposit the lay on to the knife assembly.
