Abstract

1372250 Transverse wedge rolling VYZKUMNY USTAV TVARECICH STROJU A TECHNOLOGIE TVARENI 8 Nov 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 51809/71 Heading B3M A transverse wedge rolling machine employs a pair of tools 1 each of which has wedge surfaces 2, 2<SP>1</SP> for forming grooves in a cylindrical workpiece 4 (Fig. 3), and has calibrating surfaces 5, 5<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 2, in side elevation) for finishing faces 6, 6<SP>1</SP> of the workpiece. A central recess in the tool produces a radial flange in the workpiece. Whereas surfaces 2, 2<SP>1</SP> decrease in width from the point M towards finishing end O, the surfaces 5, 5<SP>1</SP> progressively increase in width. By providing calibrating surfaces at an angle of other than 90 degrees to the base of the tool, the faces 6, 6<SP>1</SP> of the workpiece may be tapered (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The tools may be used in the form shown, or they may be of curved form mounted on a pair of rolls.
