1373851 Cross wedge rolling VYZKUMMY USTAV TVARECICH STROJU A TECHNOLOGIE TVARENI 6 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 15816/72 Heading B3M Cross wedge rolling apparatus for forming a thread on a workpiece comprises a pair of tools 1 between which a blank is rolled, each tool having oblique grooves 4 in its surface for forming threads on the finished workpiece 5. The tools may be in the form of triangular platens, or they may be provided on the surfaces of cylindrical rolls (Fig. 2, showing a developed view of such a tool). By providing grooves over only half the width of each tool, a partially threaded workpiece may be rolled (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown). A cylindrical blank may be rolled by the tools to produce a gimlet.
