Abstract

1370326 Gaseous fuel burners RADIATION Ltd 19 April 1972 [19 April 1971] 9792/71 Heading F4T A gaseous fuel burner head comprises at least one body member and a cap defining a gaseous fuel supply chamber, the burner head having a first flame port (49) and the body and cap defining a first gaseous fuel passageway between the chamber and one part of the first flame port and also a second gaseous fuel passageway between the chamber and another part of the first flame port. The head also incorporates at least one second flame port (28) supplied by a further gaseous fuel passageway in non-communicating relationship with the first port and its fuel supply. As shown, the head comprises three body members 1, 2, 3 and a cap 4. The three body members are mounted one on top of the other and are shaped so that they rest together in the correct orientation. The locating means between the first two members 1 and 2 is provided by an annular ridge 7 on the upper surface of member 1 and an annular recess 9 in the lower surface of member 2, there being a pin (8a) which locates in recess 8 to ensure correct orientation of the two members relative to each other. The locating means between the members 2 and 3 is an annular ridge 21 on the lower surface of member 3 and an annular trough 12 in the upper surface of member 2. The cap 4 is provided with downward extensions 35 which nest in slots 32 to locate the cap with respect to the other members. The body members together define a first gaseous fuel duct 5, 10, 30 which widens out under the cap to form a first fuel supply chamber. The fuel flows from this chamber to a first set of flame ports (49) via the passageways 43 (between castellations (37) and via the passageway 39 (more clearly illustrated in Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) and the second chamber 40. This second route has greater resistance against fuel flow and thus the fuel emerges at the lower parts of ports (49) at a lower velocity than the fuel emerging from the upper parts. The lower flame from the gas at low velocity thus acts to stabilize the flame from the gas at higher velocity. A second duct 6 is defined by members 1 and 2 and leads to a third chamber 12 from where the fuel passes to a fourth chamber 24. The fuel then passes through either a third passageway to a set of second ports 28 or a fourth passageway to a set of third ports 48, this fourth passageway having greater resistance to flow than the third passageway arid the flame from the ports 48 stabilizing the flame of the ports 28. The ports 28 and 48 form "simmer" ports and have a lower thermal capacity than the first flame ports 49 and the fuel supplies to the main and "simmer" ports may be regulated by a multi-position tap.
