Abstract
1307396 Blowpipe burners AGA AB 27 Feb 1970 [14 March 1969 9 May 1969] 9607/70 Heading F4T In a burner for the production of a flame, oxygen or air is supplied via a connection 19 to a bore 2 in a nozzle block 1 and a fuel gas, particularly acetylene, is supplied via a connection 20 to bores 22 in the nozzle block 1, the oxygen or air passing through a nozzle 37 in a nozzle pressure plug 6 to a "reaction chamber" 17 into which fuel gas flows by way of a fuel gas distribution chamber 18 and fuel gas supply bores 39, and from which both fuel gas and oxygen or air flow to the atmosphere along slots 11 in a nozzle "slot-piece" 8 contained within a nozzle cap 7. The oxygen or air and fuel gas pass to the nozzle block 1 through respective valve bodies 4 each of which contains a non-return valve 3. A brass ball 5 is soldered to the inside of the plug 6 and acts as a safety device by blocking the nozzle 37 if the temperature rises sufficiently to melt the solder. The slots 11 in the "slot-piece" 8 are twisted longitudinally to assist mixing of the fuel gas with the oxygen or air. In another embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown), a blank bore (8a) is provided in the "slot-piece" 8 for the oxygen or air and slots 11 supply only fuel gas as far as the intersections of the slots 11 and blank bore (8a), mixing occuring in the region of these intersections and downstream thereof.
