Abstract

1286356 Multiport burner RAYTHEON CO 16 Sept 1970 [13 Jan 1970] 44314/70 Heading F4T A multiport gas burner has a tubular wall member 1 with a plurality of ports 2 distributed throughout its surface area, the ports being arranged so that the jets of gas-air mixture passing through them merge together to form a continuous region (17) of gas-air mixture as in Fig. 4 (not shown), so that the flame burns above the surface of the wall member. Turbulence and eddy currents create conditions in the flame which allow gas-air mixture to be burnt at a higher rate than would be possible with a single burner port of the same area. At one end of the wall member 1 is a concave end plate 4 which eliminates lift-off effects, and at its other end an inlet conduit 3 is made from material of high heat conductivity to assist cooling of the wall member 1. As shown in Fig. 2 gas flows through a flow regulator 8 and is mixed with air (introduced through a passage 6) in a blower-mixer 5, which controls the flow rate of mixed fuel to the burner ports 2.
