Abstract

1363984 Two-part couplings MOLEX Inc 28 Feb 1972 [25 March 1971] 9092/72 Heading H2E A socket connector mates with the terminals 71, 73, 75 of a switch 69. To accommodate differences of terminal spacing, the body, which is moulded from resilient plastics material, is in three rectangular sections 3, 5, 7, flexibly joined by integrally formed portions 33, 41, and separated over parts of their lengths by slots 37, 47 which allow them to bend towards one another. Each body section contains a bore in which a socket contact 49, inserted from the rear, is held captive by engagement of its front end with a shoulder 27 near the front end of the bore and of a rearward-facing resilient tang 63 with a shoulder 23. The contact comprises a rectangular receptacle portion with inwardly bowed blades 59 opposite ridges 61, and a wire-crimping portion, and is formed from a single piece of sheet metal. The walls of each bore have ramp sections 15, 17 and parallel sections 21. The joining portion 41 is in the form of a tongue, reinforced for part of its length by a central rib 45.
