Abstract

1362999 Door closing devices Y NAKANlSHI 17 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 53279/71 Heading E2M [Also in Division F2] A door closing device has a torsion spring 24 for closing the door and a brake drum 37 engageable by both a brake disc 19 and brake shoes 46 for restraining the closing movement. The device is secured to the door and a squaresection shaft 3 rotatable therein is connected to the door jamb through linkage 5, 6, 7. The shaft 3 is located axially in a casing 1 by a circlip 18. A rotor 28 fast with the shaft 3 has a series of holes 29 for selectively receiving the end 27 of the spring and thus permitting adjustment of the spring loading; stop surfaces (34a, 34b Fig. 5 not shown) on the rotor limit the rotation thereof. Brake drum 37 is fast with the shaft 3 and is pressed axially against the brake disc 19 by spring 39. The peripheral surface of the drum 37 is serrated or bonded (62), Fig. 7 (not shown) and cooperates with a pair of opposite brake shoe units 46 biased inwardly by springs 47 whose loading is adjustable by screws 57. The drum 37 is resilient so as to deform to an elliptical shape during its rotation and thus increase the braking effect. In another embodiment, Fig. 11 (not shown) the disc 19 is pressed axially from below against the bottom of the drum. The drum 37, disc 19 and shoes 46 may be made of nylon or preferably a mixture of plastics material such as polyamide or acetal resin mixed with asbestos powder.
