Abstract

288,667. Smith, H. Dec. 10, 1926. Operating doors by springs.-In a device of the kind described in Specifications 220,564; 229,215, [Class 108 (iii), Springs &c.], and 246,612, [Class 103 (i), Brakes &c.], for checking or damping the movement of oscillatory bodies and comprising a casing, a rotary member or drum, and a shoe adapted to operate in conjunction with an abutment with a wedge-like action, the shoe is provided with a spring located in the space between the drum and the casing, and has a projection which passes through a slot or opening in the casing and co-operates with a. stop for limiting the forward movement of the shoe. As applied to a combined door spring and check, the door spring is secured to the lower part of the operating spindle c which, at its upper end, carries a check drum e. Between the oscillatory member e and the fixed outer casing is located, a wedgeshaped brake shoe f that acts against a fixed abutment g. The shoe has an extension h that is guided in a lug i projecting from the inner surface of the outer casing, a compression spring j serving to thrust the shoe towards the abutment. The shoe has a lug k guided in a slot k<2> in the wall of the outer casing, an adjustable stop k<3> also being provided. In a modification a tension spring is used and the abutment is adjustably forced against the shoe by a set-screw. A plurality of brake shoes may be provided.
