1359496 Counter-pressure filling machines HOLSTEIN & KAPPERT MASCHINENFABRIK PHONIX GmbH 25 Aug 1971 [29 Aug 1970 17 April 1971 10 May 1971 (2) 21 May 1971 22 May 1971 4 June 1971] 39766/71 Heading B8T A filling head, e.g. in a counter pressure filling machine, has a housing 1 which includes a holder 6 and a valve 5 which, when open permits gas to flow into a container 4 through a pipe 20, the gas acting on the base of a pressure chamber 28 to press the holder 6 against the container 4. A tube 18 when moved upward after counterpressure is applied to the container 4, allows liquid to pass into the container through a liquid supply channel 14, the filling process being stopped when the rising liquid contacts the end of the gas pipe 20. Excess gas pressure is released through duct 29 and valve 30 and the pipe 20 may be adjustably connected to the holder 6 by means of a spring clip 23 to obtain different liquid levels in the container. After the container is filled an overpressure may be produced in the container relative to that in the pressure chamber, thereby causing the container to be released from the holder (105), Fig. 3 (not shown). Excess liquid in the channel (114) may be expelled into the container by gas pressure acting through a passage (147). The seal 10 may have rectangular, triangular or semi-circular inner or outer surfaces, Figs. 20-22 (not shown). Circular or semi-circular annular mouths 304, Fig. 15, of the liquid supply channel compensate for the movement of liquid in the container and liquid stream caused by the centrifugal force 320 arising from the rotational movement of the circular array of filling heads, as do spring clips 310 which may extend from the holder 305 to the gas pipe 314 only, or to the diametrically opposite part of holder 305.
