1510812 Counterpressure bottle filling head CROWN CORK DE ARGENTINA SOCIEDAD ANONIMA INDUSTRIAL Y COMERCIAL 6 June 1975 [6 June 1974] 24428/75 Heading B8T A counterpressure filling head for gasified liquids comprises a central counterpressure and vent tube 36, 46 whose upper end is initially closed by a seal 37 which is depressed against spring 38 by a cap 34 so long as a cam 53 bears on the cap to depress it and its connected sleeve 33 against spring 32. A further, wider diameter cam 52 initially depresses an outer tube 15 against spring 57 such that a gasket valve 28 attached at the lower end of the tube 15 seals the bottom outlet of a bell chamber 48 and seats with the latter against valve seat 29. In operation a lever 25 is actuated to move cam 53 away from cap 34 and allow the latter and its sleeve 33 to rise. The seal 37 then also rises and pressurized gas within the reservoir flows to the bottle via cap apertures 35 and the tube 36, 46. After pressure equalization, cam 52 is moved away from the tube 15 whereby the tube 15 is raised by spring 57 to raise the gasket valve 28 against the bias of spring 51 to provide communication between the bell chamber's inlet and side outlet 49. During the ensuing filling step the bell chamber is held down against the pressure of spring 51 by the liquid flow, but as soon as counterpressure tube side aperture 47 is covered a back pressure within the bottle slows the liquid flow and allows spring 51 to raise the bell chamber slightly to re-seal its bottom with the gasket valve 28. Surface tension prevents liquid flow through the resultant small space between the bell chamber bottom and the seat 29. During the filling step the cam 53 is caused to locate the seal 37 close to the counterpressure tube such that the tube is closed rapidly if the bottle bursts.
