Abstract
135,905. Bibby, J. Nov. 28, 1918. Electrode furnaces.-Waste gases re-introduced into a shaft furnace for cooling the electrodes are rendered inert or of a reducing character immediately upon entry into the furnace. As shown, coal dust or the like is fed from a hopper 10 into a pipe 9 through which the cool gases pass into the furnace in the region of the electrodes 4. The gas issuing from the top of the furnace passes through a dust-separator 6, a cooler or heat-interchanger 7, and a blower 8 to the return pipe 9.
